01/03/12 - New Ruff recovery

Last week we received another colour ringed Ruff sighting, DB88671, originally ringed as an adult male on 04/04/09 at North Duffield Carrs. The following year we re-caught it in the same place and at a similar time of year (31/03/10). It was next seen at Cley Marshes in Norfolk (01/09/11) and then this year (14/01/12) it turned up again in Norfolk, at Titchwell RSPB Reserve.

It’s most interesting to get another sighting of it, although it is difficult to know if it has changed wintering area or whether it winters on the north Norfolk coast and just occurs in the valley on spring passage and to lek.

Thanks to Jerry Lanfear for sending the record in. If anyone else sees a bird of any species with colour rings please make a note of the colours on each leg (and the order in which they’re in) and report it to the BTO (www.ring.ac) or if you think it’s one of ours then you can always e-mail us directly - lowerderwent@yahoo.com.
